Casement Windows

Catch the Breeze & Shut Out the Cold
You know the feeling. You're walking past the window and catch a draft before you even look up. The curtain shifts. The crank sticks. The sash hasn't sat quite right in years. These aren't quirks you learn to live with. These are signs that your windows have stopped working for you.
Casement windows are worth serious consideration, and not just because of how they appear on a home. They're hinged at the side and open outward with a simple crank, giving you airflow when you want it and a tight seal when you don't. It's a practical design that solves real problems.
Empire Home Remodeling has been helping Milwaukee and southern Wisconsin homeowners make this switch since 2007. Because we believe that your home should be a sanctuary, not a source of frustration.
Not All Windows Are Built for This Climate
Wisconsin weather puts windows to the test. Bitter winters, humid summers, and everything in between demand a window that can keep up.
When open, the full sash swings outward and pulls air into your home, something sliding or double-hung styles just can't match. When closed, that same sash presses firmly into the frame. The resulting compression seal is far more effective at blocking drafts and moisture than what most older windows can manage.
Material choices matter here, too. Vinyl and aluminum frames hold their shape through freeze-thaw cycles and heavy humidity far better than aging wood, which can warp, soften, or rot over time. Pair that with double- or triple-pane glass, modern spacers, and new weatherstripping, and you've got a window that actively supports your home year-round.

This Is Where It Gets Personal
One reason casement windows keep showing up on renovation wishlists is their flexibility. You're not picking from a preset menu. You're making choices that fit your home specifically.
We'll help you work through options like:
Frame materials that balance durability and curb appeal
Interior and exterior finishes that complement your existing style
Glass packages engineered for insulation, noise reduction, or both
Hardware selections that change the overall look and feel
Custom sizing for older homes with non-standard openings
Energy-efficient updates that keep the utility bills down
We exclusively install KHPP windows, an American-made product we stand behind completely. Our job during your consultation is to help narrow things down so the decisions feel manageable and the final result feels like it belongs.

Low Maintenance, High Performance
Your windows should be the last thing on your mind. While some windows require constant tinkering, casement windows are created for "set it and forget it" reliability.
Skip the balancing act on a ladder and the struggle with a stubborn frame. The smooth-turn crank handles the heavy lifting, and the fold-in design lets you clean both sides of the glass from the safety of your living room. And because the airtight seal is a fundamental part of the design, not an afterthought, you get a vault-tight barrier against the elements.
From the biting chill of a Wisconsin January to the thick humidity of an August afternoon, you get a quieter, more comfortable home without the weekend chores. It’s the upgrade that pays you back in time and peace of mind.
The Early Warnings Most Homeowners Miss
Window concerns rarely appear overnight. They tend to creep in gradually until one day, the window just isn't doing what it's supposed to do anymore.
If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a closer look:
Drafts near closed windows, even when everything seems sealed
Condensation forming between panes
Mold or mildew that’s building up along the frame
Soft or deteriorating wood around the sill
Visible gaps or a sash that won't close flush
A crank or locking mechanism that's hard to operate
Any one of these points leads to failure, not just cosmetic wear. Replacement gets to the root cause, so you're not patching the same issues season after season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Casement windows open outward on a hinge and allow full-frame ventilation. Double-hung windows slide vertically and only open partway at a time. Casement styles also tend to create a tighter seal when closed.
Absolutely. Many older homes have original windows with worn frames and poor seals. Casement replacements offer a tighter fit and updated materials without compromising the home's character.
Most projects move quickly once materials are on hand. The timeline depends on how many windows are being replaced and the condition of the existing openings, which we’ll discuss with you upfront.
Not at all. The design makes cleaning easy from inside your home, and the hardware is built to last with very little upkeep needed.

Window Types
Double Hung Windows
Double-hung windows have two vertical glass panels that can slide both up and down in the frame at the same time. They can open very wide from either top or bottom and won’t protrude in any way whatsoever.
Casement Windows
These are hinged windows that operate with the simple turn of a crank arm that controls the opening mechanism. Depending on your home layout and what works best for you the hinge can either come on the left or the right side.
Picture Windows
Picture windows are generally very large fully stationary windows designed to let in the maximum amount of light possible. These are perfect for those seeking the best outside views and natural light coverage.
Bow Window Replacement
Bow windows give a unique 180° arc design which allows more light into your home and allows you to see a wider view. Bow window replacements are created from six windows of the same size and are not as deep as bay windows.
Bay Windows
Bay window replacement is great if you are looking for a stunning window that brings personality and function to your home. Bay windows consist of three windows at either 30°, 45°, 60°, or 90° angles and these are large enough for a seat or small mattress to fit comfortably on!
Awning Windows
Awning windows come hinged at the top and can be turned completely outwards to let air in from every single direction! They can be installed either above, below, or alongside your normal stationary windows.
Garden Windows
With a garden window, you can finally enjoy your plants and flowers year-round without worry about the weather outside! These windows project outwards a good couple of inches to give you space to put up things like photos, plants, or whatever else décor you may want.
3 Lite Slider Windows
These windows have three separate panels (called sashes) within one master frame. These windows are often chosen for all of the natural light that they allow as well as how easy it is to open both sides and let fresh air in. The 3 slider design is also very aesthetically pleasing and can operate at the touch of a fingertip!

“When installation day came, all 9 windows were installed with expertise in one day. The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful. And, we love our windows!”
